Scope of Services and Description of Duties :


The specific function of the Safety Coach is to provide peer to peer coaching and counseling to Construction and Maintenance and Repair (M&R) workers on ExxonMobil (EM) sites. The role is intended to supplement existing safety initiatives and resources. At the same time the safety coach will assess and advice on effective implementation and execution of EM safety processes in the field.


Role Description


The key requirement of the Safety Coach is the communication of the purpose of safety expectations at a peer to peer level.


The Safety Coach is a field based role aimed at assessing the understanding and execution of safety management systems and safety practices on site. Safety is expected to be managed in accordance with local statutory and EM requirements. The Safety Coach will need to have a detailed understanding of the local statutory occupational health and safety requirements applicable to work on Construction and M&R sites.


EM has a structured and disciplined approach to the management of safety on site. In particular this is contained in EM Operational Integrity Management Systems (OIMS). One of the tools used within the system is a behaviorally based safety system.


Resources are in place with ExxonMobil to provide expert advice on the system and its implementation. There are also resources available within the outsource service providers EM uses to provide project, Construction and M&R management support. The Safety Coach will need to communicate with both groups. In particular the Safety Coach will need to liaise with the project, Construction and M&R managers to ensure that site attendance is at a time which will add the most value in reducing incidents and communication messages.


As a general principle the more stringent of local statutory and ExxonMobil requirements will be applied. For example, if the ExxonMobil systems require higher standards of protective personal equipment (PPE), the ExxonMobil system would apply rather than the local minimum statutory requirement.
